Please note - Beads, Bawbees and Banknotes was released in 2010. Whilst we still have copies available, it is out of date and same topics are now covered in our Mon£y Marvel$ videos,
Beads, Bawbees and Banknotes is an interdisciplinary resource about MONEY!
It is available to all schools in Scotland free of charge. A link to our on-line order form can be found at the bottom of this page.
The disc-based resource contains more than 400 stunning images, exclusive video clips and five lavish PowerPoint presentations:
- Setting the Scene (an introduction to the resource);
- What is Money? (a look at unusual currencies from the past);
- Heads and Tails (an intriguing history of coins);
- Making Notes (a detailed investigation of the features on banknotes);
- Kists and Keys (an object-based discussion about keeping money safe).
Sample presentations for each unit can be viewed below.
Although aimed loosely at pupils P5 – S1, its flexible format allows the resource to be adapted for any age group or ability. Further information can be found here.
It can support study in many areas of the curriculum: social studies; expressive arts; technologies; numeracy; and literacy. Click here to view links to Curriculum for Excellence.
You may save, edit and adapt the PowerPoint presentations for use in the classroom, and print off images for study and display purposes. The contents of the disc may be saved on multiple computers within school.
Beads, Bawbees and Banknotes is ideal for schools that are unable to visit the Museum, or for stimulating follow-up work after a visit. Examples of pupil work can be found in our gallery.
If you intend to use any of the material prior to a visit, please let Museum staff know when you make your booking. The element of surprise plays an important role in our sessions, so we may need to adapt them accordingly.
If you are a teacher, and would like a copy of the disc, please e-mail us.
