Visiting the museum during Covid-19
We are delighted to welcome you back to the museum from Tuesday 22nd September. To ensure you have a safe and enjoyable visit, we have implemented the following procedures.
We have amended our opening times to allow extra time to clean the museum.
Our temporary opening times will be:
Tuesday – Friday: 10:00 – 16:00
Saturday: 13:00 – 16:00
Booking/ Group Visits/ Visiting times
You are not required to pre-book a visit to the museum. However we are limiting the number of visitors to a maximum of 20 in the museum at one time. If you arrive when the museum is at maximum capacity you will be given the option to wait in our garden area until space becomes available.
We would allow an hour for your visit although you are welcome to stay longer.
We are not taking group bookings at this time.
We would also ask if you are showing any signs or symptoms of the virus that you wait and visit us at another time.
Entry to the museum is via the main gate and follows a clearly marked one way system.
When entering the museum itself, you will be greeted from a safe distance by a member of staff who will direct you into the museum.
Please note in line with Scottish Government Guidelines, all adults and children over 12 visiting the museum should wear a mask/face covering where possible.
To support NHS Scotland’s ‘Test and Protect’ strategy we will also ask you to provide your name and a contact number/ email address. We will hold this information confidentially for 21 days, and will only share your data for this purpose when it is requested directly by NHS Scotland.
Due to social distancing and restricted space we will be unable to store items of luggage at our front entrance so please only bring items you can easily carry around the museum.
We are operating a one way system throughout the museum. All our galleries will be open. However, to reduce the number of touch points, foreign language guides, and some of our interactive displays are temporarily unavailable.
Hand sanitiser will be available throughout the museum and additional cleaning will be carried out during the day.
Our shop will be open and can be accessed on the way out of the museum.
To minimise the risk to staff and visitors we have a protective screen installed at the till counter, hand sanitiser available, and are only accepting contactless payments.
Visitor toilets, including disabled/ baby changing are available on request. Please ask a member of staff if you wish to use them.
Should you require basic first aid assistance we have a first aid kit in the museum and a member of staff will be happy to provide guidance on self-treatment. We will also have our own PPE should further assistance be required.
As always in the event of an emergency we will call 999.
We hope you enjoy your visit but if you have any queries or questions please speak to a member of staff during your visit or alternatively you can call us on 0131 243 5464 or email email@example.com
