Plan a school visit

We make learning hands-on using real artefacts and encourage young people to apply their learning in a new context. Our workshops are designed to help learners make meaningful connections across the curriculum. Learning at Museum on the Mound

Bring learning to life through hands-on exploration, creativity and discovery at Museum on the Mound.

Whether you are looking for a fully facilitated workshop, a structured class visit or opportunities for independent enquiry, we offer a range of experiences designed to meet the needs of different learners and age groups.

MUSEUM WORKSHOP: HANDS-ON LEARNING FOR SMALL GROUPS

Maximum group size: 15 learners

Age: can be adapted for learners of different ages and abilities

Available: Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Timings: flexible start time, 1-2 hours

Structure:

Led by a member of the Museum team, these highly interactive, hands-on sessions explore how money has changed over time. Learners will:

  • Explore unusual currencies from around the world
  • Discover how coins are made and strike their own replica Medieval coins
  • Investigate banknotes and uncover their design and security features

SCHOOL VISIT: FULLY STRUCTURED CLASS EXPERIENCE

Maximum group size: 33 learners

Age: P4+

Available: Thursdays

Timings: 10am-12:15pm

Structure:

This experience combines pre-visit learning, object-based learning and hands-on museum activities.

You will be sent a pre-visit video learning resource and free handling materials. Pupils will be introduced to the Museum and explore unusual forms of money from around the world, building excitement and prior knowledge before arriving.

During their Museum visit, learners will work in three groups and take part in three engaging activities:

Heads and Tails: discover the story of coins and learn how coins were made. Learners will strike their own replica medieval coin.

Design a Banknote: investigate the design and security features found on banknotes before creating an original banknote design of their own.

Kists and Keys: explore highlights from across the museum while discovering how banks and individuals have kept money safe.

MONEY MUSEUM CHALLENGE: EXPLORE, INVESTIGATE, DISCOVER

Maximum group size: 33 learners

Age: P6+

Available: Mondays and Tuesdays

Timings: 10:30am-12:30pm

Structure:

Designed for older learners, this experience offers greater opportunities for independence, team working and enquiry-based learning.

Schools will have exclusive access to the Museum. Pupils work in small groups to investigate money using a combination of self-led activities and a hands-on workshop delivered by a Museum team member.

Lloyds Banking Group colleagues will be on hand throughout the visit to encourage discussion, support enquiry and help learners get the most from their Museum experience.
